AInformation read OpenAI’s Japanese pricing page comparison table (55 items) and official help articles on November 3, and cross-checked them against 11 user reports on Go and Plus. Of the 55 items, 24 differed between Go and Plus. For everyday chat, research, and the occasional image, the ¥1,400-a-month Go plan is enough. If you want to pick a reasoning model, use Deep Research often, or want no ads, go with the ¥3,000-a-month Plus plan.

What this article covers
  • What the ¥1,600 price gap buys you on Plus (reasoning models, Deep Research, no ads, Codex, and more)
  • What’s the same on Go and Plus (unlimited text chat on both, the length of a single conversation, number of files per project)
  • Roughly how many images users reported generating
  • Who Go is enough for, and who should get Plus

Conclusion: should you choose ChatGPT Go or Plus?

If you use ChatGPT for daily questions, editing text, research, and the occasional image, Go is enough. Text chat is unlimited on both plans, and the length of a single conversation (context) is the same on Go and Plus.

Plus is worth it if any of the following apply to you. These are the features you get for the ¥1,600 price difference.

  • You want to choose a reasoning model: Plus lets you pick GPT-6 Sol or GPT-6.1 Sol, with Medium and High reasoning effort. Go only offers GPT-6 Luna
  • You use Deep Research often: Go and Free are “limited,” Plus is “yes”
  • You don’t want ads: ads may appear on Free and Go. Plus has none
  • You use Codex or ChatGPT Work for your job: Go only supports Work on desktop with limits. Plus works on web and mobile too

Data: AInformation (checked OpenAI’s pricing page comparison table and official help articles on November 3, 2026; bottom row is the average from user reports) / Created by AInformation

The pricing page lists Go at “¥1,400 / month” and Plus at “¥3,000 / month.” There’s no indication of whether these prices include tax, and there’s no annual plan. The help page states: “ChatGPT Go, Plus, and Pro subscriptions currently do not support annual billing or prepayment for multiple months.”

What’s the same between Go and Plus?

Text chat is unlimited on both Go and Plus. In the pricing page’s comparison table, both regular text chat and chat history show “Unlimited*” (the asterisk refers to a note about safeguards against misuse).

The length of a single conversation is also the same. The everyday chat model handles 54K (about 40 pages of text), and the reasoning model handles 256K (about 320 pages). The free plan is limited to 27K. For project files, the help page lists 25 files for both Go and Plus, and 5 for the free plan. Memory is listed as “Expanded” for Plus and “Yes” for Go. OpenAI’s announcement on June 4 stated that it doubled the memory capacity for Plus.

How much could users do on Go, based on their reports?

OpenAI doesn’t publish exact numbers for image counts or Deep Research usage. So we gathered 38 data points with specific numbers from 11 user reports on Go and Plus, organized by category.

Users made about 140 images a day on Go

In 2 reports from 2026, Go users generated 124 and 155 images in a day. The average is about 140. The report of 124 images (June 5) hit a limit at that point, for 1 limit notice. The report of 155 images (October 4–5) showed the limit notice 0 times. The same report noted the free plan hit a limit notice at 4 images. Each image took about 30 to 55 seconds to generate.

Thinking-based image generation is available starting with Plus, according to the pricing page.

All four Go billing reports were around ¥1,400

Of four reports of Go billing amounts in Japan, three showed ¥1,400 and one showed ¥1,404. The average is about ¥1,401. Around the time of the January announcement, some articles cited ¥1,500, but by February the displayed price had changed to ¥1,400. Before Plus switched to yen billing, users paid in dollars; six reports showed charges of ¥3,500 to ¥3,607 (averaging ¥3,546). The current pricing page lists Plus at ¥3,000.

Most reports said no ads appeared before spring

Two reports from Go users in February and March said “no ads yet.” A June update changed that to “ads seem to be appearing.” OpenAI’s help page states that ads may appear on Free and Go. They don’t appear on Plus or higher. If ads bother you, Plus is the only option.

Who Go is enough for, and who should get Plus

  • Go is enough: questions, editing emails or text, research, having the AI read photos, occasional image generation. Also for anyone on the free plan who often hits “limit reached”
  • Get Plus: having the AI read and reason through long documents, using Deep Research to compile research, writing code with Codex, or wanting no ads

If you’re unsure, the cheaper approach is to start with Go and decide based on how often you hit the limits. For canceling your subscription, see How to cancel ChatGPT; for how many images you can upload, see How to send photos to ChatGPT.

Comparing with other AI tools

How this page was made

On the morning of November 3, we opened OpenAI’s Japanese pricing page (a 55-item comparison table) and recorded the original text. We also checked OpenAI’s official help articles on Go, Plus, ads, uploads, projects, and models. The prices match AInformation’s AI tools database ledger (checked on November 2).

We gathered 11 user reports from Japanese and English blogs and from the Japanese blogging platform note. We did not count articles that simply copied the official figures. Averages are shown only for items with two or more reports.
